Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by excess glucose in the blood (hyperglycemia). In type 1 diabetes, pancreatic cells producing insulin (hormone which helps glucose enter cells) are destroyed. Type 2 diabetes, the most common in adults may result from insufficient production of insulin or the difficulty of the cells in glucose uptake (insulin resistance). This type of diabetes has a strong connection with obesity. Diabetes mellitus is one of the most serious problems of public health importance because of its complications (damage to blood vessels, retinopathy, blindness, cardiovascular problems, decreased sensation in the lower limbs, diabetic foot, increased susceptibility to infections, greater difficulty in wound healing, impotence, kidney failure). Thus, it becomes essential to prevention and control of this disease. The DiabetNat has several plant extracts in its composition, such as Herb of St. Robert (Geranium robertianum), Fel Earth (Centaurium erythraea), Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) and Arala Forest (Myrcia citrifolia). This product is indicated in cases of hyperglycemia, with special interest in diabetes type 2.
Herb of St. Robert (Geranium robertianum)
The St. Robert's Wort can be used in controlling diabetes, it contributes to the decreased levels of blood sugar (hypoglycemic is). It is anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antibacterial and vasoconstrictor. This plant is effective in treating renal calculi, pain (especially tooth and gullet), arthritis, gout, ulcers (stomach and intestines) and hemorrhoids.lt has an important hemostatic action.
Fel Earth (Centaurium erythraea)
The Fel Earth is an action relevant to the gastrointestinal system. Stimulates gastric secretions, pancreatic and hepatobiliary. Is tract and cholagogue (increases the production of bile). It is, therefore, used effectively against anorexia, and loss of appetite (due to its bitterness effect which favors starvation). One of the most important pharmacological actions of this plant is that it is hypoglycemic, i.e., lowers blood glucose levels. It is therefore effective in the control of diabetes. It also has carminative properties (against flatulence), diuretic and antiseptic.lt may be useful in inflammation, pain and fever. It tonic for the blood vessel, promoting blood circulation.
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis)
It is a plant with hypoglycemic properties, i.e., causes a lowering of amounts of sugar present in the bloodstream. It is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory slightly, diuretic (preserving adequate levels of electrolytes) and hypotensive (effective in hypertension). The Dandelion serves as an adjunct in the treatment of obesity, which is especially beneficial for type 2 diabetics. Combat dyslipidemias, due to its content of oleic and linoleic, two essential polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega series, reducing the levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) in the bloodstream and inhibiting the formation of adipose tissue, respectively. This plant improves liver function. It has a detoxifying action, allowing the elimination of potentially toxic substances to the human body. lt is also beneficial for the digestive system. Improves digestion and has a laxative effect.
Arala or Stone Forest Hume Caa (Myrcia citrifolia)
This plant is particularly suitable in diabetes. lt is known as insulin plant as naturally low levels of blood glucose. Presents a marked hypoglycemic action, as demonstrated in several studies. The Arala Forest is a cardiac tonic, contributing to the health and proper functioning of the heart. Shows efficacy in cases of hypertension, conferred by its hypotensive effect. It may be useful in the treatment of kidney and inflammation in the gut, uterus and bladder. lt is also astringent, antidiarrheal, diuretic and anti-hemorrhagic.
Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Contains polyols. The excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.
